Including a foyer in a new house or adding one to an existing home can save energy when entering or leaving a home. A foyer (which sometimes include a closet for outdoor garments) with an additional door inside has the same ‘air-lock’ effect that similar entrances have on commercial establishments. Money can be saved by having to heat, or cool, only a small amount of outside air introduced through the foyer.
